After the dramatic rises in the costs of petrol and diesel, it may be that people stick to more fuel-efficient driving practices in the long term, the AA has claimed.
The
car insurance provider noted that although fuel costs are coming down, financial burdens in other areas such as high home heating bills may cause people to stick to their green driving habits in an effort to offset other costs somewhat.
A spokesperson for the group explained: "Every penny saved on car fuel can then go towards dealing with the rising price of gas and electricity."
He also noted that fuel prices have fallen as much as ten per cent in some areas.
Elsewhere, Saga has noted recently that while many people are keen to reduce their fuel consumption, some attempts may simply be wasted efforts.
It pointed to research showing that 15 per cent of motorists mistakenly believed that redistributing weight in the vehicle would lower consumption, while one in ten thought that filling up the tank in cold weather would make fuel go further.
