A fundraising drive is taking place to fly home a man from Blackpool who broke his neck in an accident on holiday in Thailand.

Dominic Chadwick, 22, has crushed vertebrae at the bottom of his neck and top of his spine and is in hospital in Phuket but issues with his travel insurance mean that insurers can only provide up to £3,000 of his estimated £15,000 to £20,000 medical costs.

Two nights of entertainment are planned as well as a show from Blackpool comedian Joey Blower at the Merrie England bar on the North Pier.

In related news, teenager Charlotte Robinson, of Stretford, Greater Manchester, also had her holiday insurance invalidated after she fell from the back of a moped in Malia earlier this month, according to the BBC. She had been drinking before the incident and was not wearing a helmet.

Card protection insurance should also be a consideration for those travelling abroad, according to an expert from the CPP. Kerry D'Souza said: "If anything does happen, you have got some insurance in place there to cover yourself for any fraudulent activity."
