The items that people leave in their gardens can be the cause of a wide number of insurance claims, it has been suggested.

Personal finance provider Lloyds TSB states that all manner of garden accidents and intrusions can result in the need to claim on home insurance, highlighting the need for homeowners to take out appropriate cover.

Drying clothes being stolen, barbecues getting out of control and garden items being removed or damaged have all been identified as potential risks faced by those leaving items outside.

Jonathan Wadd, an insurance expert, remarks: "We've even had an instance of one customer having all his Yorkshire paving stones dug up and stolen by a very determined thief.

"All insurance policies do differ, so it's important to check yours to make sure it meets your needs and requirements."

Meanwhile, a recent survey by Lloyds TSB revealed that the most sought after addition to the average British garden is a hot tub - while decking, water features and garden furniture were also identified as attractive options.

Those who are in search of a competitive home insurance quote should consider the products offered by InsureandGo, which has products suited to a wide variety of needs.
