The rate of decline in global travel figures reduced in April, new figures have shown.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has compiled statistics for April which show that global passenger traffic declined by 3.1 per cent during the month, compared to an 11.1 per cent reduction in March.

Individuals who regularly travel might be interested in annual multi trip insurance as a way of reducing the hassle of taking out single trip cover each time they head overseas.

"With each day of the recession, the challenges for the air transport industry are mounting. Flexibility has never been more important. But there is not enough of it," commented Giovanni Bisignani, IATA's director general and chief executive officer.

Meanwhile, David Beckerman, vice-president of OAG market intelligence at UBM Aviation, recently noted that the trend for last minute booking could be helping the aviation industry maintain its capacity during these difficult times.

He noted that the annual summer rush for last minute deals could boost passenger figures considerably in the months ahead.
