Many Brits see making environmentally-friendly home improvements as too expensive, it has been claimed.
Duncan Hayes, editor at Build It Magazine, said while many people are interested in boosting their energy efficiency, the long pay back process means many people do not feel they will receive the benefit of making green home improvements.
He commented that it can take 20 years to pay back, but many people do not envisage themselves living in the same home two decades from now.
In addition, Mr Hayes noted: "[With] new-build houses, building regulations are so high that those improvements are coming by default, but in terms of retrofitting the housing stock which is massive, it is a slow progress."
According to UK retailer Kingfisher, sales at B&Q declined by 1.6 per cent in the 13 weeks up to the end of January 2010 compared to the same period last year. Total sales stood at £836 million.
