The Grenada Board of Tourism has announced that 2007 was the best year on record in terms of the number of UK tourists visiting the country.

According to statistics, there was a 34.5 per cent increase in the number of UK visitors, with 33,893 stayover arrivals recorded.

In total, Grenada received 129,147 tourists throughout 2007, an overall increase of 8.8 per cent. August was found to be the busiest month, when many colourful carnivals take place to entertain locals and visitors alike.

For those wishing to experience the festivities, the Carriacou Regatta takes place this year on August 2nd to 4th, while the Grenada Carnival is held over August 11th and 12th.

The board notes that 2008 is also likely to be a record year for the Spice Isle, with several major property developments underway to attract travellers. One such facility to open this year is Le Phare Bleu, a new marina and luxury resort "set in lush and exotic landscape on the south coast".
