The publication of a new guidebook may allow Malta to climb higher in the niche tourism market of rock climbing, it has been reported.
Some 15 years in the making, Malta Rock Climbing: The Comprehensive Guide is the first book of its kind to be issued since 1986, according to the Times of Malta.
Listing some 1,200 climbs in Malta and neighbouring islands Gozo and Comino, the book provides climbers with step-by-step instructions, the newspaper asserts.
Co-author of the guide and president of the Malta Rock Climbing Club Andrew Warrington told the publication that a growing number of requests for such a handbook have been received by Malta's tourist board.
"The book is important. It could take [tourists] to locations off the beaten track, which not even the Maltese are aware of," he stated.
Malta's islands make up an archipelago in the centre of the Mediterranean with a total population of around 400,000 people, asserts the country's tourist board.
