Research carried out by vehicle information compiler HPI has revealed that last year more than 25,000 motorbikes were stolen in the UK.
As a result, the organisation claimed that one in five motorbikes sold in the UK at present has a hidden history, something which can mean the difference between having legal
motorcycle insurance and holding invalid cover.
Nicola Johnson, consumer services manager for HPI, commented: "It is worrying to see that there remains a false impression amongst consumers that buying a bike is less risky than a car."
Meanwhile, motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki has launched a new scheme aimed at ensuring all owners of its bikes keep their vehicles in the best state possible.
Its Green Light Campaign enables motorcycle owners to have their bikes checked to keep tabs on excessive tyre wear, pressure and that brakes are balanced, while also ensuring emission levels are within tolerance.
