Over half of British road users admit to accidentally driving without headlights on at least one occasion in the last year.

Research published in recent days by car insurance provider esure suggests that over 4 million drivers do not know that their cars have sidelights and more than 2.5 million people have never used their foglights before.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, comments: "As the nights become longer and darker, it is essential that motorists use their headlights properly while driving."

He adds that road users should be extra vigilant with safety during the winter months due to the increased chance of poor driving conditions.

In recent weeks, the firm reported than November is its busiest month, with regard to the number of car insurance claims it receives from clients.

Drivers shopping around for a deal on car insurance may find that they can obtain a competitive quote from InsureandGo.
