Almost half of the UK population carry between £200 and £500 worth of belongings with them every day, new research suggests.

The importance of having adequate insurance is emphasised by the research from Cheshire Building Society which has suggested 45 per cent of people habitually carry possessions valued above £200.

This includes MP3 players, mobile phones and laptops, as well as the more traditional wallet or purse.

Karen Torson, Cheshire Building Society partnerships business manager, comments: "It is important that people don't underestimate what their belongings are worth and should check that everything being carried around with them is covered by their home insurance policy for loss or theft."

She added that fashionistas may be fans of the oversized handbag but that such items did carry with them the increased possibility of containing large amounts of valuables.

Recently, Legal & General estimated that the typical 30-year-old would spend between £185 and £380 on a new bag.

Anyone conscious of the value of items carried with them might benefit from investigating the competitive cover options offered by InsureandGo.
