Tourism officials in Milwaukee recently announced that plans to create a bronze statue of Fonzie from the 1970s television show Happy Days will be completed now that sufficient funds have been secured.

Visit Milwaukee spokesperson Dave Fentle told the Milwaukee Business Journal that organisers have raised $57,000 (£27,000) of the $85,000 needed to build the figure, which is hoped will become a focal point for tourism in the area.

Local artist Gerald Sawyer has been commissioned to create the statue and a website called "Bronze the Fonz" has been set up to raise additional funds for the project.

A dedication of the statue is scheduled for next year, which will be attended by Henry Winkler, the actor who played the Fonz.

Happy Days originally aired between 1974 and 1984 and was set in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
