More detailed labelling of alcoholic beverages could help Britons to make wiser decisions about the amount of intoxicating liquor that they consume.
Speaking for Alcohol Concern, one representative explains that enforced labelling of health issues and units contained in each drink would assist individuals keen to consume alcohol in a healthier way.
While she concedes that a move to make such labelling mandatory would not stamp out binge drinking, she adds: "Hopefully it will allow people to make healthier decisions."
At present, around 85 per cent of alcoholic drinks do not contain the kinds of information - such as the units of alcohol contained within and the potential health risks of over-consumption - that could become mandatory through government intervention.
"Hopefully mandatory measures will make sure that people will have the information that they can use to keep themselves safe," the spokeswoman asserts.
