Leading a healthier lifestyle could help many Britons avoid cancer, it has been claimed.
However, anyone worried about the disease might like to take out comprehensive
life insurance to ensure their loved ones will be catered for after they are gone.
Dr Laura Bell, science information officer at Cancer Research UK, said it has been known for a long time that changes to lifestyle could help save lives, but awareness of this fact remains relatively low in the UK.
She commented: "Giving up smoking is the most important way to reduce cancer risk. Cutting down on alcohol, keeping a healthy weight, being physically active and avoiding sunburn and sunbeds is also important."
According to the World Cancer Research Fund, almost 80,000 cases of cancer in the UK could be prevented every year by eating healthily, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight.
However, the charity noted only 60 per cent of people in Britain are aware of the link between diet and cancer, while awareness levels are even lower for body fat (59 per cent) and physical activity (45 per cent).
InsureandGo provides life insurance for those worried about cancer.
