A new portable plastic splint has been developed by a team at Sheffield Hallam University, designed to help those who suffer injuries while on adventure or winter sports holidays.

It is hoped that the new creation will help those who are injured in remote areas, which may be far from a hospital and often difficult for medical teams to reach.

Around 45,000 snow sport injuries take place every year and the team which created the First Aid Splint hopes that the equipment will help to bring down the numbers that suffer serious damage.

With winter sports holidays and adventure breaks growing in popularity, the need for such devices is set to increase.

John Brewer, director of the Lucozade Sport Science Academy, said: "Rapid treatment of any injury is an essential part of the recovery process.

"Most traumatic injuries will cause internal bleeding and welling, which will be exacerbated if the injured area is moved or left untreated."

Going on a winter sports holiday? You'll need cover for those unforeseen circumstances. InsureandGo offers great value winter sports insurance.
