New developments in high-speed rail travel have encouraged some tourists to take to the tracks when planning their holidays.
According to the Association of Train Operating Companies (Atoc), while high-speeds aren't the overall deciding factor in improving the performance of train services as a whole, they can contribute significantly to increasing reducing the number of passengers travelling by plane.
Hassard Stacpool, media relations manager at Atoc, said: "Experience on the continent shows that when high-speed lines are invested into they do attract passengers away from the airlines and the roads, so it is certainly part of the long-term solution."
Mr Stacpool continued by saying that while the Atoc does not have an official stance on the promotion of high-speed trains, a lot of people in the industry are beginning to feel that they will contribute significantly to the provision of rail travel services in the future.
According to the Commission for Integrated Transport, Britain is currently significantly behind other countries in Europe and Asia when it comes to providing passengers with high-speed rail services.
