Getting travel insurance and jetting off to the Caribbean might sound tempting to most this gloomy January - and it seems that more Brits are currently choosing the destination as the ideal place for some winter sun.

And with more UK airports now planning to offer more flights to the Caribbean, all holidaymakers have to worry about is getting the right level of holiday insurance and packing spare flip-flops.

Purchasing director of Virgin Holidays John Taker has said that bookings for the first two weeks in January were up compared to the same period in 2008.

He told Travel Mole that Virgin would run additional services to Montego Bay this winter.

Holidaymakers can also fly from Manchester to Barbados, with Virgin offering two such flights a week as of this summer.

InsureandGo offer low-cost single trip insurance which could help travellers cover a once-in-a-lifetime trip to an exotic location such as the Caribbean.
