Britons with overseas property need to be sure that they have adequate
home insurance cover to protect its contents.
Such is the assertion of AA, which has indicated that contents cover needs to include all items within a house, including carpets, curtains and furniture.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, said there was an attitude of apathy towards taking out overseas property cover.
His comments followed recent statistics from Zurich Private Clients showing that one in ten foreign property owners lack contents cover.
Mr Crowder also pointed out that there was also a problem of lack of cover in Britain.
"It's estimated that a third of all UK households don't have contents insurance. And of those who do, two thirds of them are underinsured," he suggested.
Mr Crowder concluded by reminding those who are leaving overseas property unattended that there is a duty of care on all insurance policies and that adequate security precautions such as locking windows must be undertaken.
