Holidaymakers could benefit financially if members of the European parliament (MEPs) vote today for new regulations which would see the costs of mobile phone calls made abroad reduced.
It is expected that the MEPs will vote in favour on the European Union (EU) roaming charge reduction.
There is a great discrepancy between roaming charges in different EU countries, leading to the decision to try and bring down prices, despite opposition from mobile phone operators who argue that the industry should be left to regulate itself.
The proposals will see call charges capped at 33p a minute, while receiving a call would be limited to a 16p charge.
British holidaymakers can pay up to £4.03 for a four-minute call in Spain and lawmakers are hoping for around a 75 per cent slash in prices.
Socialist MEP Martin Schulz told the BBC: "Consumers will save quite a lot of money."
