The majority of holidaymakers would prefer to choose an airline that did not charge to check-in luggage, a new survey has revealed.

Research from consumer watchdog Which? found that, of the 1,948 respondents intending to go on holiday in the coming year, more than 75 per cent said they would rather choose an airline that did not have baggage hold fees.

However, the study revealed that finding such an airline could be a tall order for holidaymakers, with British Airways recently announcing a charge of up to £120 for checking in a second bag.

"Most passengers accept that these charges are inevitable and justified in return for a lower fare," said James Fremantle of the Air Transport Users Council.

"The major complaint we get from passengers is that they don't know about the charges…We wouldn't be surprised if more airlines started charging."

If one of your worst holiday fears is delayed luggage it would be wise to invest in some travel insurance. InsureandGo offers affordable cover and up to £300 if your baggage is delayed for more than 12 hours. So there would be no need to go without your holiday essentials.
