Travel site TripAdvisor has unveiled figures that show that its number of reviews doubled in June from the same time last year.

The travelling website that features user generated reviews on the best place to go on holiday and recommendations on what to do while there, now has 10 million reviews and counting.

This is a substantial increase of five million reviews in only one year, indicating the huge growth market that currently exists for travel sites.

The website, which currently has 20 million monthly visitors, also announced a traveller networking site that will use a system similar to the increasingly popular social networking sites to allow friends and peers to share recommendations on places to travel.

It will further personalize the users reviews by knowing tracking your preferences and delivering the content that is the most relevant.

"If you think about it, wherever you are thinking of going on vacation ... one of your friends probably has been there, recently. The trick to getting that great tip from a friend, is knowing which friend to ask. TripAdvisor's new social networking features lets real-world friends connect and share those wonderful nuggets of advice, without resorting to spamming everyone you know," explained Stephen Kaufer, CEO of TripAdvisor.
