The majority of holidaymakers cannot cope with problems that might occur when they are in a foreign country, according to a new survey.

Fisher's Travel SOS recently released a report which showed that 60 per cent of people on holiday lack sufficient information and the means to be able to deal with incidents overseas.

And without this information, some 15 per cent said that their holiday was ruined.

Some 85 per cent of people who encountered holiday disasters blamed a third party, such as an airline or travel agency, with 45 per cent intending to seek compensation.

Commenting on the results, Julian Fisher, who published the survey, said that the figures showed a "marked rise" in incidents and said that holidaymakers are increasingly finding themselves "stranded" due to a lack of information.

"Even the simplest of tasks when dealing with people in a foreign country, especially when unable to speak the language, has contributed to high stress levels already acknowledged throughout the industry," he said.

The report urged holidaymakers to be careful and stay vigilant while abroad, with 50 per cent of those who encountered problems saying they ran out of money, while 18 per cent had their wallets stolen.

The report serves to highlight the importance of taking out travel insurance. InsureandGo recognises how much time and money Britons spend organising their holidays each year. With that in mind they provide comprehensive cover to help minimise any holiday disruption should the worst happen. What's more the pricing is competitive and buying a policy is both quick and easy.
