Holidaymakers could benefit from card protection insurance, according to an expert.

Kerry D'Souza from CPP said that people should consider card protection to cover themselves from fraudulent activity with their cards.

She went on to advise that people tell their bank they are going away so that any unusual transactions can be monitored by them.

There has been a rise in the number of both credit and debit cards stolen abroad which cost British tourists £207.6 million between 2006 and 2007. In the same period card crime abroad rose by 77 per cent.

More than a third of the total amount of card offences committed against British people now happen abroad, with European destinations France, Spain and Italy the three places with the most incidents.

In related news hotel chain Best Western has had the details of everyone who has stayed in one of its hotels over the last year stolen by a hacker, according to the Daily Mail.

Up to eight million people could be at risk of identity fraud according to the report, which says that British customers are not thought to be affected, according to Best Western.
