If people were paid the usual hourly rate for chores carried out in the home, they would take home an average salary of £7,864, Yorkshire Building Society has claimed.
As such, it noted that domestic tasks such as cleaning, DIY, gardening and caring for children carried out by Britons have a total equivalent value of £462 billion.
With the average Briton found to spend two hours and 22 minutes cooking each week, over the course of the year this essential task was said to have an equivalent value of £1,065 over the course of a year.
Meanwhile, DIY tasks would raise £992.68 each year if consumers were paid the usual professional rate for such tasks.
Commenting on the findings, Tanya Jackson, corporate affairs manager at Yorkshire Building Society, said: "It is easy to underestimate the value of work carried out around the home, which can easily be taken for granted as an unpaid occupation."
Other recent research published the group has also highlighted the statistic that the average Briton would be able to survive on their savings for 52 days.
