A number of measures that can be used to lower the cost of home insurance premiums were recently highlighted by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Jonathan French, assistant director of media relations at the association, stated that having high-quality locks fitted to windows and doors provides one way of reducing premium prices.

Mr French also noted that falling into good home security habits is also important, as locks on doors and windows are rendered ineffective if they are not used when consumers are not in their houses.

"On [a] wider basis, by shopping around within the home insurance market, which is very competitive, [consumers] can find really good deals out there," he added.

The ABI states that in 2006 the insurance industry paid out some £64 million to consumers in general insurance claims on a daily basis.

People wishing to shop around for a competitive deal on home insurance may find they benefit from contacting InsureandGo for a quote.
