It is important that people check the level of liability they incur in the terms of their home insurance policy, it has been claimed.

According to comparethemarket.com, doing so is particularly important for those people who employ the services of nannies, private tutors or cleaners who view houses as a place of business.

The group explained that those without adequate liability cover could find themselves landed with a hefty bill should someone else injure themselves while in their home.

"Personal liability payout might apply where a friend trips over a loose carpet in your home and breaks their leg, whereas employee liability is where you are employing someone at home," said Jeremy Moll, insurance expert from comparethemarket.com.

In other recent statements, the price comparison site has iterated the need to check gardens cover after research showed that more than 1.2 million people had experienced garden theft.
