People can look to make a saving of as much as 45 per cent by shopping around for
home insurance, according to Gocompare.com.
In statistics released by the price comparison site, the difference between the highest and lowest premiums available can effectively allow people to get three years of cover for the price of two if cheapest deal is sought.
Hayley Parsons, chief executive of Gocompare.com, said: "As our figures show, the difference in premiums between insurance companies can be quite significant so it is important that you don't just accept the first quote that you are given."
She added that by shopping around, people will at the very least be able to see how their competitive their renewal quote is before committing to an extension of the policy.
However, consumers are also advised to assess suitability of cover on level of protection as well as price.
In other recent advice offered by the company, Ms Parsons commented that it was important for consumers to provide accurate information when applying for cover.
Failure to do so could render policies invalid, she warned.
