The cost of storm damage to UK is on the increase and homeowners need to make sure their
home insurance policy provides adequate cover, according to Halifax
Home Insurance.
One-and-a-half million roofs were damaged by storms in the UK last year, Halifax claims, with 200 million tiles needing to be replaced during that time.
This contributes to an overall cost of £4.5 billion to cover damage caused by high winds. An additional £2.5 billion was spent repairing properties damaged by heavy rainfall leaking into homes.
Halifax also asserts that the average cost of repairing wind damage now stands at £2,800 - a considerable bill to pick up for those without adequate
home insurance cover. The sum amounts to 17 per cent of the average UK annual salary, the company states.
The report follows recent announcements that a growing number of UK homes are at risk from flood damage. The Association of British Insurers predicts that around a third of homes will be built on flood plains by 2020.
