Britons looking to increase the appeal of their property to potential buyers have been advised to invest in sprucing up the outside of their house in order to boost its kerb appeal.
Anyone considering work on their property, however, might want to contact their
home insurance provider to ensure that any work is covered.
Homebuilding & Renovating magazine has argued that the inside of a property can be redecorated, but in many instances, prospective buyers can be put off by the exterior of a property before they step inside.
Melanie Griffiths, assistant editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, said: "Anyone looking to maximise the kerb appeal of their home would do well to take a good look at the exterior and consult an expert opinion if they find design difficult to master themselves."
According to research carried out by English Heritage, there are presently 727 conservation areas in the UK which are at risk of falling into disrepair or being spoiled by outside encroachment.
The organisation warned that more needs to be done to protect some of the UK's most important grade I and II listed buildings and the character of the areas surrounding them.
