The growing number of people who choose to work from home need to be sure that they are adequately protected under the terms of their home insurance policy, Lloyd's TSB has stated.

According to recent research from the Office for National Statistics, there are more than three million home-based workers around the UK - amounting to 11 per cent of the population.

Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, has said that with rising figures, it is increasingly important for workers to check their level of cover, with some home policies said to be insufficient.

"[For workers who are] unsure of their policy, they should check with their insurance company. A regular home insurance policy may not cover for various work materials and computers," he said.

His comments come in support of the upcoming National Work From Home Day, which takes place tomorrow and forms part of the Work Wise Week 2008 initiative.

InsureandGo offers flexible home insurance cover to suit individual requirements.
