Motorcycle manufacturer Honda has developed the world's first dual-clutch transmission system, news that could prompt some to take out
motorcycle insurance and purchase a new bike.
The company plans to put this new innovation on its larger, sportier bikes, as the technology offers easier operation at speed and higher transmission efficiency.
"It features a light, compact design that allows it to be combined with existing engines without substantial layout modification," the company added.
The dual-cutch transmission has three modes, one fully automatic and two manual which enable the transmission to be tailored for both ease of use and performance.
Meanwhile, research carried out by the Motor Cycle Industry Association recently showed that more Britons are taking out bike insurance and purchasing motorcycles in a bid to beat the congestion of the daily commute.
It showed that 52 per cent of all motorcycle trips in the UK in 2008 were made in the interest of commuting, compared to 22 per cent of all car journeys.
