The UK housing market is seeing an increased demand and a rise in sales, after suffering from the impact of the economic turmoil.

Richard Hair, past president of the National Association of Estate Agents, said that first-time buyers were among those coming back to the market.

Recent bad weather in the UK has shown how important a home insurance policy can be and this is an essential purchase for those looking to get on the property ladder.

Mr Hair noted that sales were better than at this point in 2008.

"There is always a renewal in the market in January because it's a new year, it's a new market and things are always that bit more positive," he commented.

According to a survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, interest in the housing market has risen.

In total, 16 per cent more chartered surveyors said they had seen an increase in new buyer queries.
