People looking to move home might feel the housing market has been fairly poor of late, but it will level out eventually, according to one property expert.

Helen Adams, managing director of FirstRungNow.com, said first-time buyers in particular are finding it difficult to make a purchase at present because of the difficulty in securing a mortgage, although the market will hopefully find the right level before too long.

She commented: "[Prices] will come down once again but there is no guarantee. People have realised that they need money to save for a deposit but recently that money has not been available."

Anyone planning to move home might like to take out home insurance cover to protect their belongings during and after the move.

Elsewhere, the Nationwide House Price Index has shown that UK house prices rose by 1.2 per cent during the month and are up by 8.6 per cent year-on-year.
