New research by insurer esure has indicated that November is the month that sees the highest number of car insurance claims.

In light of this, the firm has offered a number of tips on what to do should a motoring mishap occur.

Advice includes ensuring that the driver of the other vehicle is okay, remembering to exchange insurance details and not to continue driving as shock may impair your ability to operate your vehicle in a safe manner.

Head of risk and underwriting at esure Mike Pickard commented: "Being prepared for the unexpected is crucial. Knowing what to do and what not to in the event of an accident will help making an insurance claim as hassle-free as possible."

Insurer Direct Line recently announced that almost a quarter of drivers who have passed their test in the past two years have been involved in an accident.
