As more Brits choose to take breaks to exotic and far-flung destinations, getting a good
travel insurance policy and getting cheap flights may not be the only considerations before jetting off.
One travel expert has urged tourists planning to take long-haul breaks to make sure they respect the local culture of the area they are visiting.
Managing director of Aim4 Africa Nancy Cutinha said that it was important for tourists to not treat those in other countries as "objects of art".
She said that travellers could be wise to use a well-respected tour operator and to use local guides when visiting somewhere with a different culture.
Travel operators Hayes & Jarvis recently published figures showing that Kenya was the fastest growing destination for tourism in 2009.
According to the firm, holiday bookings for the country made in January and February of this year showed a year-on-year rise of 90 per cent.
