UK travellers off to exotic destinations have been advised that some areas are likely to be hit by hurricanes this holiday season, TravelMole has reported.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting 17 storms this season, making for a worse than average hurricane summer.
The average is around 11 hurricanes a season, with the season being defined as being from June to November.
These will affect areas around the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, which are becoming increasingly popular with travelling Brits.
"Lowered prices of flights to destinations such the Dominican Republic and Mexico have boosted the number of UK tourists travelling in the hurricane season to areas where tropical storms typically occur," said Mark Harrington, chief executive officer of Check Safety First.
Check Safety First has urged travel agents and tour operators to check for the safety standards of their hotel partners and ensure that travellers are protected from any eventualities as much as possible.
