Those looking for winter adventure might be interested in the Viking Run, which will start later this month.
An annual event, it involves over 8,000 competitors ice skating their way across a 48-mile track, which passes through many historic Swedish sites and into Stockholm.
The exact date of the start of the race will depend on weather conditions, but is expected to commence as soon as an adequate spell of clear and cold weather covers the track with ice.
People wanting to take part or to watch the race will need to book soon, although a new report reminds last-minute travellers to take out insurance before they travel.
New research by Sainsbury's bank suggests that nearly one in five people went on last-minute holidays without insurance.
Steve Johnson, head of
travel insurance Sainsbury's Bank, suggests: "If you are planning a number of trips in a year, maybe a summer break and a few weekends away, it's worthwhile considering an annual policy."
InsureandGo offers a number of
annual insurance packages which automatically cover adventure sports like the Viking Run.
