Brits looking for an inexpensive and exciting getaway might like to take out some travel insurance and jet off to Iceland, it has been claimed.

Sigga Groa, marketing manager of UK and Ireland for the Icelandic Tourist Board, said the present weakness of the Icelandic krona has made the country one of the most affordable destinations in the world.

Therefore, UK travellers are urged to sample the delights of Iceland while it is still so affordable, especially as the strength of the euro has made visiting Europe that much more expensive in recent years.

"For the experienced traveller, just getting a car and driving in Iceland is amazing. The scenery is changing all the time," she commented.

Ms Groa added Reykjavik and the Blue Lagoon are also popular destinations that holidaymakers might like to visit in the country.

According to XE currency exchange, as of 11:01 GMT this morning (February 12th) £1 was the equivalent of 201.78 Icelandic krona.
