To mark its 70th anniversary in the aviation business, Icelandic airline Icelandair has introduced one-way fares from three major UK airports.

Now 21 departures a week to Iceland have been split between the airports of Heathrow, Glasgow and Manchester.

The one-way fares are now on sale for the price of £70 including taxes.

Icelandair will also offer travel in different classes, with travellers being able to combine them in one return trip, making for example an outbound flight in Saga Class (business) and the return trip in Economy class.

"By introducing value for money one-way fares Icelandair offers UK travellers greater flexibility," said Helgi Mar Bjorgvinsson, Icelandair general manager for UK & Ireland.

And the airline is not going to stop there, also planning for a cabin refit in its airplanes, improved in-flight entertainment system and an updating of its online booking system to completely overhaul its services.

The airline also said it was planning on offering new destinations.
