British holidaymakers who decide to do something impulsive and adventurous abroad have been advised that they may not be covered by
travel insurance.
According to research by comparison service moneysupermarket.com, half of all British holidaymakers have done impulsive activities while abroad.
These activities included less risky feats such as cycling, which was found to be the most popular with a quarter of respondents having taken part in the past during a holiday.
Scuba diving, jet-skiing and whitewater rafting were other impulse activities that made the top ten of activities that holidaymakers liked to indulge in.
Moneysupermarket.com advises customers to check their policy carefully before deciding to take part in these activities.
"Many insurers such as Marks & Spencer, Post Office and Norwich Union Direct classify these as dangerous sports and will not cover you in their standard policies if anything goes wrong," said Richard Mason, director of insurance for moneysupermarket.com.
Mr Mason added that standard insurance is fine for most holidaymakers who are simply looking for a time in the sun, but keeping an eye for detail when going over insurance deals is crucial.
"For example, scuba divers should be aware they are usually not covered below 30 meters," he argued.
