Following a recent relaxation of the regulations surrounding the use of mobile phones on aeroplanes, it has been suggested that travellers will be able to make calls in-flight in the near future.
However, the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) comments that calling onboard will not be popular with all flyers.
As such, James Fremantle, industry affairs manager for the AUC, suggests that it would be prudent for carriers to enforce rules regarding the use of mobiles.
"They should also take into account the interests of the minority of passengers who might not want it and put into place measures that would alleviate some of the main problems that passengers might have," Mr Fremantle comments.
He adds that ultimately, the decision to offer such services will rest with airliners, which will have to decide whether some passengers will be put off flying if mobile phone calls are allowed onboard.
Ofcom announced the decision to allow for the use of mobiles on planes earlier this week.
