Indian beach festival 'ready to begin'

November 23rd will see the beginning of the 13th annual Puri beach festival in the Indian state of Orissa, it has been reported.

The first night of the event will begin with performances by a range of acts such Odissi group dance, Chadheiya folk dance and tribal dance from the Boudh district.

Other activities at the festival will include boat races, cricket and volleyball.

Hosted by the Hotel and Restaurants' Association and supported by the tourism ministry, the festival will be attended by actress Vaijayantimala Bali and inaugurated by governor M Bhandre, according to the Hindu.

In recent days, the publication noted that the Marari Beach Resort in the state of Kerala won the Skal International Eco-Tourism award for the best eco-friendly rural tourism project for 2007.
