Farmers in India have taken part in a workshop on rural tourism, it has been reported.

Some 200 agricultural workers attended the course, organised by companies including the Centre for International Trade in Agriculture and Agro-based Industries and Vanrai Pune.

Mohan Dharia, founder of Vanrai, told the Times of India: "Rural tourism is a booming trade, but tourists need to be familiarised with aspects such as organic farming.

"Farmers have to take the responsibility to familiarise them with irrigation, polyhouses, organic fertilizers et cetera," he said.

Results of the day will form part of a report to be sent to the state government as a part of a policy to create a formal rural tourism policy, the publication notes.

Elsewhere in India, it was recently reported in the Hindu that a new sightseeing initiative is to be launched in the city of Chennai.
