Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, India has been named the best hotel in the world by Travel + Leisure magazine.
With an overall score of 94.36, the facility takes the top spot in the publication's top 100 hotels for 2007 list, marking the first time that an Indian accommodation facility has grabbed poll position.
The hotel came in third place in the rankings for 2006.
Singita Sabi Sand in South Africa's Kruger National Park, the winner in 2006, falls into second place, with a score of 94.30.
Finishing off the top three is the Oriental hotel in Bangkok, which scored 94.23.
Oberoi Udaivilas boasts 87 rooms, two restaurants and bar.
The Telegraph recently published a list of top new hotels for 2008, including an eco-boutique hotel in Mozambique.
If the list of top hotels inspires consumers to head off and stay in luxurious accommodation, they may well find that they benefit from investing in a
travel insurance policy from
InsureandGo before they pack their bags.
