Indian state aims to boost tourism credentials

Plans are in place to market the state of Rajasthan as a popular tourist destination, it has emerged.

The state's tourism department aims to promote the region, located in the north-east of India, as a friendly place for people to visit, according to the Hindu.

State minister for tourism Usha Punia told the publication that local residents are being urged to be welcoming and helpful to visitors as well as taking pride in their region's attractions through the publication of social awareness advertisements.

"Responsible tourism is important to make a destination genuinely tourist-friendly," she explained.

Elsewhere in India, the Hindu recently reported that an expansive art facility called the Uktal Art Gallery is planned to be established in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the state of Orissa.
