India's tourism department is to team with private firms and hoteliers to ensure that the requirements of tourists are met, it has been reported.
According to the New India Press, the city of Bangalore has a demand for approximately 14,000 hotel rooms on an annual basis, but there are currently only 4,000 rooms and as such the shortage has been a setback to tourism in the region.
Plans to address this shortfall include monetary investment, some of which will also be used to train hotel staff such as cooks, receptionists and office personnel, the publication asserts.
Tourism director Mr S Somashekar told the publication: "Shortage of rooms and fluctuation in demand and supply [are] a common phenomena in a growing city. It is important to utilise resources effectively."
In related news, it was reported in the Hindu earlier this month that traditional Indian puppetry may play a part in a tourism festival currently being planned to promote the country.
Consumers wishing to visit India may be advised to take out comprehensive
