It is generally believed that hybrid and electric cars offer cheaper tax costs, better fuel consumption and start in lower insurance bands, motorinsurance.co.uk has asserted.

Paul Cosh, managing director of the online motor insurance company, also stated that while the final cost of an insurance premium for a vehicle is dependent on individual factors, the environmentally-friendly features of such automobiles may result in them tending to be cheaper to protect.

Mr Cosh added: "Today's growing environmental concerns lead me to hope that people are becoming socially responsible. The insurance industry is always changing to meet new demands and changes."

Direct Line have also asserted that some electric cars have reduced road tax rates or are exempt from the charge altogether.

However, Mr Cosh added that although the number of eco-cars is rising, they are doing so slowly and as there are limited places in which such ecologically-aware vehicles can be charged up.

Regardless of whether they drive an electric car or not, consumers may be able to benefit from competitive car insurance from InsureandGo.
