People travelling throughout Europe using an InterRail pass should make sure that they take out a
travel insurance policy that covers against the loss of theft of the ticket, according to STA Travel.
A spokesperson for the company said that many people tend to travel with all their important possessions in one bag, making it even more necessary to take out a robust
travel insurance policy.
She also gave practical advice on what to pack before an InterRail trip, suggesting that MP3s are an effective way to keep travellers entertained on long train journeys.
"To save money, book overnight trains, wake up in your next destination and save on the cost of a hotel," she added.
A recent report by Gapyear.com states that 25 per cent of young travellers are uninsured or underinsured, with 230,000 people aged between 18 and 24 taking a gap year annually.
There are also a growing number of older people taking gap years, with 200,000 people aged between 55 and 65 deciding to travel the world, the report states.
