A recent study claims that 20 million people used search engines for travel information in the first quarter of 2007.

The survey was conducted by Google U.K. and comScore and tracked over 20,000 search engine users.

A number of UK search engines were used in the study, including Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL and Ask.

The report finds that on average, users make 12 travel-related searches, visit 22 websites and take 29 days from the first time they search until they make a purchase.

Bob Ivins, executive vice president of European markets for comScore said: "Online research and more specifically search has become a critical first step for consumers considering purchases."

The report follows the launch of the first social networking site dedicated to travel.

USATravelSpace.com aims to allow people to exchange information and search for the best deals.
