A new report calling for the establishment of strict exclusion zones has found support in Bradford, local newspaper the Bradford Telegraph and Argus has reported.

The report by the Institute for European Environmental Policy advised banning vehicles from parking near schools as a way to increase safety, promote walking, ease congestion and help the environment.

It has been advise that has found strong support from several teachers in the Bradford are, the local press reported.

Councillor Carol Beardmore said she would back the recommendation to introduce school exclusion zones.

But councillor Ian Greenwood of Bradford Labour argued he preferred to campaign for parents to park safely but not introduce full exclusion zones around schools.

Bradford council road safety officers have already visited schools in the area to give warnings on road safety.

And parents have been warned they could face legal action if they ignore the police's advice on parking safely on yellow lines.
