Travellers who also enjoy a flutter may be in for a treat as 2008 will see Israel get its first legal casino.
A casino and resort will be built on 12 acres of land after an agreement was reached between the country's land administration and tourism ministry, according to Jackpot.co.uk.
Yitzhak Aharonovitch, the tourism minister, comments: "A casino in Eilat is one of our main objectives for 2008 and its success will lead to the establishment of additional casinos throughout the country."
He adds that the gambling facility will boost the economy of the region and help it compete with neighbouring cities such as Sharm el-Sheik, Taba and Aqaba, all of which currently have casinos.
Other established tourist attractions in Israel include the Western wall, the Dome of the Rock and the Museum of the Jewish Diaspora.
